As we prepare to kick off the 2025/26 basketball season, we want to clarify the components of the proper officiating uniform.

 

Game site arrival attire

Business casual or athletic attire. Slacks, athletic pants, nice jeans, dress shirt, golf or athletic shirt are acceptable. No t-shirts, cut offs, shorts, sweats or jeans with holes.

 

Game uniform

The required uniform shall be clean and neat and includes the following:

 

Jacket: Black with UHSAA patch/logo. Wear prior to game. Available at https://uhsaa.org/officials-apparel/

Shirt: New black/white/gray vertically striped shirt with black shoulders and UHSAA logo required. Wear inside pants. Entire crew shall wear same design and style. Available at https://uhsaa.org/officials-apparel/

Shoes: Primarily black with black laces. 

Pants: Entirely black pants.* Preferably beltless. If worn, belt shall be black.

Whistle: Black, pea less plastic whistle, (Fox40 recommended). Carry a spare. 

Lanyard: If worn, it shall be black.

 

* Regarding pants, in addition to the Smitty style referee pants, black athletic style pants (i.e. Lululemon, Public Rec, Truwear, etc.) that are hemmed at the bottom of the pant leg with a drawstring tie on the inside waistband are acceptable. Sweats and joggers (with inside or outside drawstrings and tapered to an elastic cuff at the bottom of the leg) are not acceptable. See picture slider above for examples:
