Transfer Rule & RegisterMyAthlete Update

The Utah High School Activities Association member schools have ratified the approval of a new transfer rule for the 2017-2018 school year (View New Rule). Register My Athlete is working tirelessly to incorporate the new changes into the software. At this point, the UHSAA will allow non-transferring students to continue their registrations as they have in the past. However, transferring students will be flagged and required to complete the transfer process after July 25 when software updates are completed. The update is tentatively scheduled to be completed on July 25. Please make certain your coaches know it is ultimately their responsibility to identify all new incoming transfers before any eligibility can be granted.

A student requesting varsity eligibility needs to complete a transfer request to the UHSAA if at least one of the criteria listed in the UHSAA transfer rule is met. Any student making such a request shall provide such documentation as the Association may require and all requests will be considered on the facts documented. All transfer requests for varsity eligibility will be passed online from the student, to their new school, to the UHSAA as previously done in the past through RegisterMyAthlete.

In the new registration process, a transfer student may compete at the subvarsity level by completing a transfer request that will remain with the new school. Subvarsity eligibility applications will NOT be submitted by schools to the UHSAA, but students MUST meet all other UHSAA eligibility requirements before participating at the subvarsity level. Students may compete at the subvarsity level at the new school for a period of twelve (12) months from the last day of attendance at the former school provided they meet all other UHSAA and school/district eligibility requirements. Once a student has enrolled and attended at the new school, that student is no longer eligible at the former school.

A student competing at the subvarsity level will submit the transfer request to the school in RegisterMyAthlete and the school will verify the student’s eligibility status. Students who remain at the transferring school will be eligible at the varsity level after 12 months from the last day of attendance at the former school provided they meet all other UHSAA and school/district eligibility requirements.
